The garden is beginning to burst with daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops accompanied by many varieties of weeds. I have been trying to gain control. It's going to take a while to find the plants under the weedy growth.

We have fallen trees that will make lovely logs for the woodburner. There are loads of twiggy bits that are perfect for burning. I love a bonfire.

I don't think the stake we used to hold up our apple tree is doing its job any longer. I rather like the eccentric angle it is now at.

Finding what to give to people for birthdays is fun sometimes a challenge. For Pippa I did a pen and watercolour of her house in France. It is stunning. I will be visiting as soon as my ensuite with running water is complete.

This evening we were the first to be invited to a dinner party in June and Barry's new kitchen. What a transformation. With Mike and Pippa, Ray and Linda we did our best with delicious food and copious amounts of wine and port to make it a wonderful inaugural evening of many dinner parties to come.

There was a lovely village pop-up pub in Northiam for a few days in 2022. We were lucky enough to pass by.

There is a geranium rampaging through our flower beds. I picked some and put them in a vase. The petals it drops are perfect hearts.

It is not often the local supermarket offers delightful plants. I happened to find the most gorgeous dark leaved geranium which promises a delicious dark red flowers. We found a film made in 1975 to watch this evening. The action of 47 years ago was slow paced enough that I would paint and keep up with the plot.

Our fruit trees were growing long spindly shoots. They are covered in blossom so I requested advice and on the good authority of a fruit growing friend if the time was right to prune. They are now charming shapes. We will know when the fruit yield comes in whether the authority was good or not.

Our two chickens made a very noisy disapproval of a buzzard being so close to their roosting site. I have it on good authority that they were quite right to be concerned as it may have taken one for a meal. It decided that sitting atop our metal heron for enough time for us to admire its beauty.

I passed our beehive on the way to find a place for my rhubarb plant. I was delighted to see a few bees had been tempted by the warm sun.

This afternoon my sister took me for a muddy walk and talk through the magic woods and by a raft of ducks. They expectantly got out of the water for bread that we didn't have. Next time ducks.

I was given a bucket load of damsons to process. The removal of their stones is laborious. I expect excellent culinary results. They were good models to paint.

I visited an Open Studio in Playden. Richard Adams (I adore his paintings) and his partner Jane Beecham opened their home and displayed their works of art along with their ceramicist daughter. We came home with a new piece of a lovely expressive work of art for our wall by Jane. I am thoroughly inspired.
